I searched pump vs semi speedball on google and this came up. It's quite obvious from Trevor Brown's first comment that he has never actually played real speedball. If you think all it is is shooting as much paint as possible, then I'm really surprised that an adult could make a statement that ignorant. So, you snuck around their whole team, flanking them and then shot each person out with 3-4 balls? That's cool. Try lasting a minute in a gunfight with a good speedball player. I guarantee you couldn't because your skill base is completely different than theirs. It's a different way of playing and you just won't understand until you actually try playing it, and with a real high end marker, not a Tippmann. Flanking people is boring for many players after a while. Woodsball involves too much walking to actually get into a gunfight, and everything's too spread out. Speedball starts you off closer together, so the action starts right away and there is no waiting. The field is symmetrical to make sure that each team has equal cover. Anyone could really go play woodsball without any prior paintball experience and actually have a chance. In speedball, it is it's own breed of game. Locking down lanes to control the field, gunfighting, bunkering, run throughs, being aggressive, and reloading quickly are what it's all about.

I began playing paintball in the woods with a Tippmann, Autococker, and pump. I eventually moved up to speedball because woodsball got boring, and bought a Shocker. Throughout my paintball career, I realized that blowback markers are worthless. The only markers I would even consider playing with would be a nicely tuned Autococker, a pump, or a high end electro pneumatic. I suggest you try upgrading to a real marker such as an electro pneumatic so that you can see what the sport really has to offer instead of sticking to your low end ways and complaining about what other people do. As of now, I play woodsball occasionally, and with a pump. I also realized that woodsball is nothing really. I just consider it casual paintball, more of a time to fool around taking shots at people than a real game. Speedball is real paintball. It remains the apex of the evolution of the game. It is specialized for the sport of paintball, it is paintball. Woodsball in the way you talk about it, could just be anything. What you're talking about could be done with airsoft, real guns, dart guns, video games, whatever, but it's not specific to paintball. Conclusion: speedball is paintball, woodsball is casual paintball meant for fun, and to attract new players to eventually get them into speedball if they like the sport enough, and to gain money for the paintbal companies because so many people play woodsball compared to speedball. So woodsball only exists for companies to get money, speedball is the sport. I suggest you try playing some real paintball, maybe you'll even like it.

Great job here. I really enjoyed what you had to say. Keep going because you definitely bring a new voice to this subject. Not many people would say what youve said and still make it interesting. Well, at least Im interested. Cant wait to see more of this from you.

There is an 'elephant in the room' in this conversation that is not being mentioned, which is the effect 'consumerism' has on the game. Hand in hand with a player's self image/self illusion (sic); this is the driving force behind equipment purchases and technological innovations. We are lost in an arms race against ourselves, trapped in a spiral of escalating dollars, built-in obsolecence, FPS, fad and ego with the end being paintball oblivion.
Ask youself, "What do I really need to play?" and acknowledge the fact that the marker (image) does NOT make the player.
